“I have done my best.” That is about all the philosophy of living one needs.

Lin Yutang (1895 –1976) was a Chinese writer, linguist, and inventor and served as a cultural bridge between China and the West. He received six nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature. 

Chanting, prayers, meditation, macrobiotics, yoga, fasting, drugs, seclusion, ashrams, charities, monasteries, prostrations, pilgrimage. What path shall lead me to enlightenment? Philosophy, spirituality, religion, esoterica. What shall I believe?

According to Lin Yutang weighing and evaluating these methods and techniques are unnecessary. All we need to do is the best that we can. No need to go to extremes or understand exotic methods of philosophies.   

Enlightenment is not a destination; it is a journey that must be traveled every day, and every day we must just do the best that we can.
