Promise Five: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.

                        John 14:27

My Prince of Peace,

            Any peace that I felt in this life has been based on circumstances. If I am healthy and secure, if I feel loved and respected, peace and serenity are present. But when life brings sorrow, loss or regret, any peace that I have felt disappears. This peace is replaced with anxiety and fear, and I am bereft of hope.

            However, You tell me of a peace which passeth understanding. This peace has nothing to do with the world with its happiness and sorrows. This peace does not depend on anything or anyone but rests whole and entire unto itself – for it is the peace of the Silence of Your heart. Within this peace, I see the world and its experiences as a road which leads ultimately back to You.

            I ask that you fulfill Your promise to give me the peace which the world cannot offer. I ask for the Silence of Your Heart.

Lord, teach me what Peace is.
