Promise One: “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

John 14:18

Beloved Companion of my heart,

            As a child I once wondered what would happen if my mother or father died and I was left alone. My mind could not encompass the thought of being so abandoned. What panic my child’s heart felt, how I wept.

            And now, as I struggle through this life that panic and fear of abandonment washes over me again. Will I have to face these challenges alone? As I take my last breath and close my eyes to this world, will I be afraid? When my soul is weighed in the Divine Scales will you, my Beloved Companion, stand beside me as I ask for understanding and mercy?

            Help me to remember that You promised never to leave me an orphan in this life nor in the next. You will always come to me. No matter how many mistakes I make, no matter how many times I fail, You will never abandon me. Your love is unconditional and eternal. You always answer my call, You are always beside me. I am never alone. Beloved Companion of my heart, I am yours, now and forever.
