Holy Spirit,
Giving life to all life,hildegard
Moving all creatures,
Root of all things,
Washing them clean,
Wiping out their mistakes,
Healing their wounds,
You are our true life,
Luminous, wonderful,
Awakening the heart
From its ancient sleep.

And God said to the soul:
I desired you before the world began.
I desire you now
As you desire me.
And where the desires of two come together
There love is perfected.

Anyone who has waded
Through Love’s turbulent waters,
Now feeling hunger and now satiety,
Is untouched by the season
Of withering or blooming,
For in the deepest
And most dangerous waters,
On the highest peaks,
Love is always the same.

Hadewijch of Antwerp, 13th Century, was a poet and mystic whose writings include visions, prose letters and poetry.

The language of mystics has a timeless quality whose meaning is at once ancient and contemporary. Agape, the love of the divine, is an every-constant theme no matter what the century or culture.
