Who are we, where did we from, why are we here and where are we going? The search to answer these questions can become the overriding purpose of our lives. When we finally have an insight there may be a feeling that the answer was unconsciously known to us all along, that we are remembering something that has always been known – although perhaps temporarily forgotten.
This journey of search and discovery reminds me of the Isis and Osiris myth in which Isis must find all of the dismembered pieces of the God Osiris to bring him back to life. We, too, go through a process of re-membering, bringing back to consciousness, all of our pieces; of re-assembling, putting back together, who we really are into a vital whole.
So intense, so personal, so real are these mystical experiences that the answers they bring forth need no external confirmation. They carry their own validity and a sense of truth that cannot be counterfeited.
The Question and the Answer are inextricably entwined and create a silent dialogue between the soul and the Self, between the finite and the Infinite, between the created and the Creator. Later, the essence of these dialogues may be expressed as prayers, poems songs, art, rituals or reflections.
Over the last 40+ years I have read many books by beings who have encountered the Divine. They tried to express the inexpressible, to describe the indescribable; they sought to put into words what cannot be spoken. Reading these sacred writings has given me strength, comfort, joy and insight for my own journey. I will include many of my favorite poems and reflections in this blog as well as my own personal reflections. They speak of our yearning for the Divine, the recognition of our Origin and Nature, and help us to remember our Sacred Self.
